Checo Pérez Calls Mexican GP His Worst

Sergio 'Checo' Pérez described the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix as his worst experience, finishing 17th due to an incident with teammate Lawson. Despite a strong start, the race ended poorly for him. Pérez has faced difficulties in his home GP since 2015, hoping for a better outcome next year.

Checo Pérez Calls Mexican GP His Worst

Mexican driver Sergio 'Checo' Pérez expressed his disappointment after finishing in seventeenth place at the Mexican Grand Prix, held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Despite competing in his home Grand Prix since 2015, Pérez could not improve on his historic third place achieved in 2021 and 2022 with Red Bull.

Last year, 'Checo' Pérez had an unfortunate performance by crashing on the first corner and retiring from the race, thus wasting the opportunity to stand on the podium in his country. After the recent race in Mexico, Pérez shared his dissatisfaction: "Today I had a great start, we reached tenth place, even with the penalty for not stopping correctly at the start. My worst Mexican Grand Prix because last year I crashed while in first."

Pérez also pointed out that Lawson, his teammate at Red Bull and a potential replacement, was responsible for negatively impacting his performance in the race. Despite a good start, the incident with Lawson affected Pérez's participation, who finished last among the 17 drivers who completed the race.

Regarding the incident with Lawson, Pérez commented: "What happened with Lawson was unnecessary. He was off track, had made the maneuver in corner four, and in corner five he stayed and crossed the corner from the outside, and we both sustained damage." Pérez expressed his concern about the pressure and desire for prominence shown by his teammate.
